Artist Statement
For well over thirty years I have involved myself in creative endeavors producing a wide variety of art. Although painting and drawing have always been my main interests, other forms of expression continue to pique my curiosity and challenge my ability to create what I envision. Because of an insatiable quest to explore spatial relationships within two-dimensional planes, I have also found great satisfaction in producing three-dimensional works. Whether it be sculpture or even commercial and residential design, the direction of my artistic expression has been limited only by my imagination. Pursuing the making of art, in whatever form it may take, has been a life-long journey that continues to define who I am.
Influence upon my art also comes from meeting and getting to know the many fascinating people and beautiful places I have been so very fortunate to experience. From the old man running a little country store to the person sitting next to me at a European cafe, the intricacy of cultural diversity forms an interconnected web of commonality that strives to be expressed within my work. Allowing communication barriers to gradually melt into one another through visual form and artistic expression, I seek to find what makes us all so much alike, not to emphasize what makes us so different.
My proclivity for visual expression has been forged from the desire to rationalize what at first may seem garish but strives to become ethereal through the unity of design. As love is the common thread bringing together humankind, so are my ambitions to produce art that transcends the limitations of mere expression by combining the tactile with the abstract, and seeing through the abhorrent to find the beauty within.
It all begins with a drawing...
It's not always the case, but many of my ideas begin with a simple sketch. Most of the simplicity quickly gives way to a myriad of possibilities depending upon the chosen medium or style.
Newest Venture
With a background in a variety of construction-related fields, I have recently delved into working with decorative concrete applications. I have been fervently creating things from not-so-simple stepping stones to full-scale hardscaping.
